Looks like you changed multiple things at the same time (OS on your parents
machine and you went to VNC 4.0) so pinpointing where the problem is may be
difficult. I use VNC 4.0 on XP SP1, 98, 2000 and ME machines without any
problems so my guess is that you can rule out VNC as the culprit for not
running now. You say your parents machine just went to XP so my guess is
they have SP2 which has the Windows firewall enabled by default.

You say 'firewall is cleared'. What exactly does that mean? If you have
not done so already you might want to TEMPORARILY turn off the Windows
firewall and see if that makes a difference. If it starts to work then, you
at least have a starting point. Then you can re-enable the Windows Firewall
and try opening port 5900.

Subject: Not making connection

I used to connect my XP machine to my parents' win98
with no problem. We now have ver. 4 on both machines,
but they have a new XP machine. Now I cannot connect
from either direction. Password has not changed,
firewall is cleared, IP addresses are correct.
I really need to good ideas on what to check next.
Thanks.
