Ernie,

I am approaching this as a Mac user, not a VNC expert. (See my post under
"Getting past *two* NAT routers." I got a good answer, but I'm still learning.)

I suggest you explore the amount of control you have over your broadband
router. There are usually two ways to get into the router, both require you to
know the router's 192.168.x.xx address. You can find it under System
Preferences->Network->Show Built-in Ethernet. Using the _Router_ IP you find
there (I assume you have DHCP set to Automatic?), the easy way into the router
is using Safari. Go to "http://192.168.x.xx"; (the router IP). If the router
allows it, you will go into user ID "admin"; you will be asked for a password,
which is often "1234" by default. (If not, go to the documentation that came
with the DSL router; if you can't find it there, contact your provider and ask
them.) Here you will find a number of settings, among which will be the ports
to leave open. VNC uses port 5900. The other way to get in (which in my case
allows greater control, along with greater opportunity to mess up) is to get
into Terminal and type "telnet 192.168.x.xx".

Good luck!

Joe Brown

Subject: Max OSX VNC

I'm kinda new at using the VNC server program on Mac OSX. I am usin the OSXVNC
program for my Mac at home. I want to view my Mac from a PC at work. My problem
is tha I cant connect to the my Mac from a PC at work. I have looked all over
the internet and have found no help. I also read a document on Mac-Dev Central
on how to do connect to my Mac from a PC, still no luck. I am on a router for
my Broadband phone connection through Vonage could this be causing my not to
connect? My IP address is 192.168.x.xx. This is the IP address the VNC server
is displaying. I have tried everything possible to try to connect to my Mac.
Can someone please lead me in the right direction on how I can connect to the
Mac? Any help would be greatly apprciated.
