Then, from your friends house, either point the VNC viewer to that IP address (which will connect to 5900), or type http://<YOUR IP ADDRESS> in a browser (which will connect to 5800).

I have a Linksys Befsr41 router and I have port forwarding enabled. it is forwarding ports 5800-5900 to my private ip 192.168.1.*. I do not no how to access my home computer from the Internet at a friends house or my work. I do not know what ip to use. Do I use my private ip like so 192.168.1.100:5800 or do I need the ip my cable provider gave me. I can connect through my network but when I try it anywhere else it will no work? Can you please help me?
