I've recently installed RealVNC on a WinXP machine and had intended to
control it via a wireless connnection from another WinXP machine. I've
managed to get everything to work under the User-Mode. However, when I
try the Service-Mode, it seems to stop working. Initially I thought I
might have disabled some services during my tweaks of WinXP Services
so I re-enabled it. I also made all the passwords the same. No luck
there either. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling to no avail. Then
I installed TightVNC and that too gave me the same problems as
RealVNC. User-Mode works while Service-Mode doesn't. Essentially, I am
trying to get a configuration whereby I can boot up the machine and
everything else could be done remotely. By the way, I tried Logmein
and that worked alright albeit rather slowly. The Logmein drivers are
listed in the Task Manager as running as System, which is the same as
what the VNC drivers would under Service-Mode. In User-mode, the VNC
drivers run under the Local_User. That seems to be the only difference
I can find. I would greatly appreciate it if someone could point out
my mistake. Thanks.
