Can someone walk me through the basic setup of RealVNC with Hamachi?
It looks like it should work, but RealVNC always times out instead of allowing
me to connect.

and they look like they are finding the other computer OK, but when I load the
RealVNC viewer on my laptop and enter the Hamachi IP address of my desktop, it
always times out and refuses connection.

This is what I did, and VNC works properly for me all the time.

- Download the latest beta version of Hamachi from forums.hamachi.cc -- I think they're up to 1.0.56? - Install the client on both of your machine, follow the tutorial to make sure everything is functioning properly (join `test`, leave `test`, etc) - Create your own network -- be aware, though, the computer you create it on will be considered the `owner`; if it's just going to be a private network, then this probably won't be very important to you.
- Join your second machine into the network you just created.
- Both computers should be on Hamachi now, and you should have a green light next to each computer on both computers, signifying a full-strength connection. - Do a Start > Run `cmd`, and at the command line do a `ping [hamachi ip] -t` at each computer, but using the opposite computer's IP.

If you can get a ping, you're all set for that part.

- Just for a kicks, reboot both machines and run the ping test again.
- Install the VNC server on both machines and if you have a firewall (including built-in) then make sure it's set to allow traffic both directions on port 5900, or just generally for the program itself. - Using the viewer, you should now be able to connect to either machine from either machine.
