3. The WinXP firewall is usually configured automatically to accept incoming
connections when you install the VNC server.  Other software firewalls e.g.
ZoneAlarm(?) may not be automatically configured and will block incoming
connections.
4. The VNC server PC may be in a LAN behind a router which has not been set up
to forward the relevant port to the server PC (e.g. port 5900).

To overcome most of these problems you need to follow instructions in the
documentation and FAQs for your operating system.
