OK, let me answer my own question. :)

I re-compiled vncconfig, using the xorg sources that match my distro, Slackware 12. Following that, vncconfig now runs fine.

I guess the issue is some kind of incompatibility between the sources used to originally compile vncconfig, which I'll guess was one of the XFree versions and the now current xorg version.

I did also notice one other "oddity". I use a copy of the "generated" xstartup. I comment out most of the lines, because I use kde for my desktop. One line I didn't comment out, but I'm guessing I can, is: xsetroot -solid grey That command generates the following error in the log: xsetroot: unknown color "grey"

But, running the same command at the command line gives no error. Strange.

Cheers,
Eddie

After wondering why I wasn't able to cut/paste from Winblows to my Linux VNC session, I found it was because I wasn't running vncconfig. So. I added it to my xstartup. However, this didn't work. This is what I added to xstartup:

vncconfig -display=:1 -nowin &

And this is the result, from the VNC log:

vncconfig: xcb_lock.c:62: _XGetXCBBuffer: Assertion `((int) ((xcb_req) - (dpy->request)) >= 0)' failed.

The other thing I also noticed, was this, at the end of the VNC log, when KDE shuts down:

startkde: Running shutdown scripts...
startkde: Done.
/home/eddie/.vnc/xstartup: line 9: 16052 Aborted vncconfig -display=:1 -nowin

Any ideas, anyone.

Cheers,
Eddie
