Regarding the xset q command:

Here is what is returned when I run it at my local desktop terminal:

Font Path:

/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/msttcorefonts,/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/75dpi/:unscaled,/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/100dpi/:unscaled,/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/Type1,/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/75dpi,/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/100dpi,/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/misc

Here is what is returned when I run it in the VNC desktop terminal:

Font Path:

/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/misc/,/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/Speedo/,/usr/X11R6/lib
/X11/fonts/Type1/,/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/75dpi/,/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/100dp
i/

However, I tried starting a vnc server with the following command:

vncserver :1 -geometry 1680x1050 -depth 24 -fp
/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/msttcorefonts,/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/75dpi/:unscaled,/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/100dpi/:unscaled,/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/Type1,/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/75dpi,/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/100dpi,/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/misc

I still had the same problem, even though the font paths were identical.
