When trying to run vncviewer on my Linux/i386 system (using the
vnc-3.3.3r2_x86_linux_2.0.tgz tarball), it terminates after printing the
following on my xterm window (NOT the xterm inside vncviewer, it never gets
THAT far):
Connected to VNC server, using protocol version 3.3
VNC server default format:
8 bits per pixel
True colour: max red 7 green 7 blue 3, shift red 0 green 3 blue 6
Can't cope with 24 bits-per-pixel. Sorry.
My heart goes out to the wee beastie, there are days I can't cope either,
but the message isn't too informative and the source only increased my
confusion. And, of course, it isn't in the FAQ (why is it always that *my*
questions aren't in the FAQs? ;-) )
Can anyone tell me what's really going on, and maybe how to get past it?
