Subject: WinVNC v3.3.3R7 & AuthHosts/REG_SZ string
Just installed WinVNC server on a Win98SE pc. This is my first
experience with VNC. It is cool. However, I want to implement the
AuthHosts settings to restrict access as I test/learn this cool app., and
I have a rather lame question. I understand the sytax for restricting
access via the templates (+[ip-address-template], etc.). My problem is,
I'm not sure how to create the REG_SZ key/string correctly using
regedit.exe (I'm more of a *nix person - wrapping services/hosts.allow &
hosts.deny...). Anyway, I can get to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\ORL\WinVNC3\
but once I do, I'm not certain of the specific steps to create the
*REG_SZ* string! Can anyone send me the specific steps for creating the
string, and/or a working/sample example of your AuthHosts template(s) so I
can create an AuthHosts template? I've read the vnc FAQ, searched
the vnc-list archives, and searched www.microsoft.com for anything that
would help me understand regedit.exe better, specific to creating the
REG_SZ string for the version of regedit that ships with Win98SE, but
haven't found the golden nugget yet :) TIA.
