it could be an issue of registry permissions. if you are running with User
level access, your changes to the password (and, therefore, the registry)
will not be written to disk. try logging in as Administrator and see what
happens. you may need to modify permissions on the registry key being
accessed using Regedit32 if you need to allow user-level persons to modify
the password.
