"Norberto Bensa" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> asks: > > (btw, does anybody know if I need 59xx open when using a browser only > connection?) > Yes. 58xx is used only for downloading the java client. Once it's downloaded and starts running, the java client uses 59xx, just like the native client.
See http://www.uk.research.att.com/vnc/faq.html#q52 which says, in part: "In addition, VNC servers normally have a small and very restricted web server built in, which allows you to connect a browser to them and use the Java viewer. This runs on port 58xx. Note that this is the HTTP port used for downloading pages and applets, but once the applet is running it uses 59xx for VNC just like any other viewer." I have some vague recollection of getting a java viewer to load and run locally using the java VM without "benefit" of a browser, i.e., not downloading the java viewer from the VNC server but from the client PC's hard drive. I suppose in low bandwidth circumstances, this could be useful in order to avoid the delays of the viewer coming across the wire. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, mail [EMAIL PROTECTED] with the line: 'unsubscribe vnc-list' in the message BODY See also: http://www.uk.research.att.com/vnc/intouch.html ---------------------------------------------------------------------
