Steve,
Thanks for the quick response. I have already tried replacing twm with
dtwm, and also with /usr/dt/bin/Xsession and dtsession. That makes things a
little better in that I get something on-screen but not the whole screen
and I get no tools long the bottom, and I can't right click to get the
Workspace Menu, etc.
I tried running naked Xvnc like you showed, and got the following:
freya:ps -A | grep Xvnc
freya:Xvnc -query localhost -fp tcp.localhost:7100 &
[1] 29024
freya:_XSERVTransSocketINETCreateListener: ...SocketCreateListener() failed
_XSERVTransMakeAllCOTSServerListeners: server already running
Fatal server error:
Cannot establish any listening sockets - Make sure an X server isn't
already run
ning
[1] + Done(1) Xvnc -query localhost -fp tcp.localhost:7100
&
freya:ps -A | grep Xvnc
freya:
So I'm still stuck. If you would care to call me at 973-829-4952 that would
be great. If you can't take the time, no problem. I understand.

Please respond
to vnc-list
Hey,
First, it looks like you are running vncserver perl script. Can you
confirm.
If so. the easy way to display the desktop is to open the ~/.vnc/xstartup
file and replace the twm with dtwm.
But if you want more control then run Xvnc with the options.
You will want the option -query localhost and -fp tcp/localhost:7100
This will give you the dtlogin screen. so any user can login.
Hope this helps, or gives you a start.
Steve
P.S. To see all Xvnc options run Xvnc -help.

Subject: vncviewer gives only blank gray screen
Hi,
I am trying to get vnc running on Solaris 8 and have made pretty good
progress but I'm not there yet. Xvnc starts OK, and I can connect with a
vnc viewer on a PC, but all I see is a blank gray screen.
Here is the log file:

Here is my xstartup file:

#!/bin/sh
xrdb $HOME/.Xresources
xsetroot -solid grey
xterm -geometry 80x24+10+10 -ls -title "$VNCDESKTOP Desktop" &
twm &
==========
When I try to run the steps in the xstartup manually one at a time, they
all run until the last one, which fails:
==================
freya:twm: another window manager is already running on screen 0?
twm: unable to find any unmanaged screens
===================
I'm sure this is a simple problem, but I don't know xwindows and twm.
I would appreciate any help
