or one could use a linux/unix/whatever (I would suggest some slackware/debian box with everything but SSH firewalled and disabled) gateway and the built in SSH gateway feature of tightVNC (http://www.tightvnc.com), that way you can use SSH over an insecure public network and set your clients to only accept connections from the trusted linux gateway. This would be fairly safe if the network behind the gateway would be switched wich most of todays networks are, and you closely monitor the gateway box. However this setup still makes it possible for anyone with access the VNC ports to ask the servers for their password since VNC apparently evalutes the password before allowed IP (wich seems weird?), I belive I asked about the IP/password thingie a few days ago but I have recived no responce regarding that matter.
