I dunno - PAM is what you'd implement, and that's been mooted before. NT domain authentication has been implemented, I don't see PAM being much different (in fact, it's probably cleaner). Implementing PAM would give us (instantly) LDAP, Kerberos, NIS[+], RADIUS, TACACS+, Netware, s/key etc... or at least it would on sane platforms.
