Does the X follow your mouse in the viewer? Then you are about half way.

Some things to test: After starting vncserver from the unix promt, also
start a vncviewer from the same prompt to see what has happened. If this
viewer gives the same view, my first guess is that `twm` is not installed on
your system: Start an available windowmanager (mwm, olwm, olvwm or dtwm are
some alternatives possible available on your solaris system) NOTE: start the
windowmanager with the right display information: `*wm -display :1`. If you
find a proper one, stop vncserver, edit ~/.vnc/xstartup and change `twm` to
a windowmanager that is installed on your systen and restart the vncserver.
Do not add the -display option here! Now the vncviewer should give something
more.

this is how I realy like vnc.
