Is the entire vncserver process stopped or just the windowmanager (dtwm)? I
see 2 possible problems: If the windowmanager is stopped but Xvnc (the core
of the vncserver) keeps running, then I suspect tooltalk. This is easy to
test if you change to an other windowmanager (olwm should be available on
solaris, otherwise olvwm can be obtained from internet).
If Xvnc is also killed, the problem is that your logout from the telnet
session also kills all processes started in the background. This can be
solved by starting vnc as a batchjob (or at process or even crontab entry):
# batch
at> vncserver :1
at> ^D
If batch is not available, exchange it with `at now`. THis ^d is short for
<ctrl-d>. An alternate is to create a crontab entry, say every hour, that
starts vncserver on a specified port. Both at, batch and cron start
processes which are not connected to a login session so they are not closed
once you logout.
You should consider the init configuration as described on
http://www.sourcecodecorner.com/articles/vnc/linux.asp. If you're a real
unix administrator, you can convert these settings to solaris and off you
go, no need to telnet at all.
