While it's true NT only supports one virtual display, you can make it
whatever display number you want.  If he's configured it to be display 1,
then 5901 is correct.

If you uncheck allow localhost and it works, then there is 
somethihng wrong in your SSH setup.  Also when using NT,
I use the connect string of

ssh -L 5900:localhost:5900 -l username servername

I don't think you can use 5901 on NT because it only supports 1 
virtual display.  590x is valid for unix.
