"DToC has a couple of advantages over VNC. The security issues are integrated into
DToC, rather than travelling through other layers and translations that you need to
configure separately. The piggybacking on HTTP means that DToC gets through a firewall
more easily than VNC does (but that is both good and bad). Furthermore, within DToC
you get a file transfer interface, so no separate FTP, Samba, NFS, or similar file
transfer server necessarily needs to run on the server machine, as long as DToC is
running (as you would need with VNC)"
