Well, we do have RAT, an open-source multicast audio tool linked in with Vnet on the linux platform - it allows proximities, so that when you get close to people, you can talk to them. Dynamic groups of from 2 to whatever groups can be created; you can "walk" with people; go over and join in a conversation, and all that kind of stuff. Well, we'll try it with about 3 or 4 workstations; had problems with PCI-128 soundcards and the latest version of RAT. I think that on Friday we solved the last of the problems. Famous last words. :-) The source code to FreeWRL is on http://www.crc.ca/FreeWRL/ The audio proximity stuff is not there, nor is the slightly modified version of RAT.
