MARKS HISTORY & FUTURE OF HUMAN COMMUNICATION
SEPT. 15, 16, 2001

San Francisco -- The pioneers and next generation of digital revolutionaries
will be meeting in San Francisco, September 15-16, 2001 at the first
CyberArts International Conference to be held since 1992, and the first ever
to be held in Northern California. Centered at San Francisco's famed
Exploratorium, the CyberArts Conference includes the world's foremost
visionaries and educators on subjects including:
Advances in Interface and Next-Generation Computer Platforms
The Rebirth of Virtual Reality Technologies
       The Future of Computer Games
Advances in Audio Techniques for Movies & Television
Developments in Theatre & Themepark Technologies
Social Implications of Digital Media and more.

The conference opens with the debut of an inhabited online world in which
participants from anywhere on earth can interact with the conference.  The
Keynote presentation follows featuring Michael Kaplan of Adobe Systems. A
critical look at "What Happened to the Future?" will feature
multimedia pioneer, Marc Canter, editor of "DV Magazine" (and
previously "Keyboard" and "Interactivity" Magazines)
Dominic Milano, and award-winning director/videographer, Michael Masucci.

Other panels will focus on "Virtual Reality" and "Simulated
Humans and Future Social Computing," featuring the VR visionaries, Jaron
Lanier and Linda Jacobson, and developer/avatar pioneer Bruce Damer.
Multimedia author, publisher Michael Gosney will be joined by David Greene of
the First Amendment Project to discuss the "Social Implications of New
Media," and Drs. Hugh Lusted and Ben Knapp will bring the audience
up-to-speed on the latest advances in bio-interfaces (muscle and brainwave
computer controllers).  Other sessions feature award-winning audio designers
Randy Thom, of Lucas' Skywalker Sound, and Bob Bralove, former sound designer
for the Grateful Dead.

Other highlights of the two-day conference include an exploration of the
themepark of the future with Jim Solomon and Nacy Magoun of Xulu
Entertainment, along with a sensory journey provided by Forrest Fleming,
whose company ScentAir creates smells for multimedia experiences.

In the two final sessions of the event, musician/astrophysicist Fiorella
Terenzi is joined by artist/futurist Charles Ostman and poet/philosopher Dan
Duncan to speculate on the "Future of the Future." This session is
followed by an open forum titled "The CyberArts Think-Off" in which
participants can respond to or raise any relevant issues of concern.
