Title: Message
That is correct, the header FROM: is required, I had to write a sieve script to
capture such messages because spammers were sending messages with
no FROM, TO, or SUBJECT in the header and these messages caused
problems with users of Norton antivirus when they tried to download their
mail.

So if the messages in question truly have no from in the header then the
problem in my opinion really exists on the senders side, but Vop or Modus
should also reject the messages with a specific error so the sender has it
logged on their end.

I do not think Vop or Modus should accept a non RFC compliant message
the is missing required header information as it causes problems with mail
clients when they try to retrieve their mail.

Bill,

If I understand correctly, some systems are returning "user unknown" messages from your system, right? If yes, I've reported this to Vircom quite a while back and they promissed a fix.

The problem is that in some situations modusMail will bounce e-mails with an empty "From:" header. Note that an empty MAIL FROM: is the correct behavior, but the "From:" should have something like "MAILER-DAEMON" or "postmaster".

Subject: [VOPmail Beta] user unknown

Hi all,

We run Modus with spam and sieve filtering.

In the middle of last week, we started getting calls that emails from a neighboring ISP are returning "user unknown" messages when sent to our system.

I have an account on the neighbors system, and can recreate the problem.  Some messages will deliver, but a very small percentage.

To our knowledge, this is only happening when messages are from this specific system.

The user accounts messages are being sent to are valid and receiving messages from other systems and the user accounts are verified against  VOPRadius.

I am not able to find any reference to these delivery failures in the error log.

Does anyone have an idea of where to look next?
