Hi,

This customer is connecting from an outside address. I am using the POP
authentication method currently, but I would like to turn that off.

The thing I noticed comparing this login to others is that it's using
the command AUTH NTLM and the others are using the AUTH LOGIN. That's
the only thing I can see.

Hi Warren,

Is this user connecting from an IP that's listed in the allow hosts for
relay field or is he connecting from an outside IP and therefore trying
to use SMTP auth? We've seen some really flakey behavior with Mac's and
SMTP auth in the past, so the best bet would be to try using the POP
authentication method instead. Make sure it's enabled on the server
side, then the client should make his first connection to the server via
POP. Once he gets authenticated, he should be able to send mail.

Hi,

I'm still having issues with this. The customer has upgraded to OE 5.0.6
for MAC. The system now attempts the AUTH command but returns the
following error..

>>> EHLO [24.141.233.40]
<<< 250-kmp4.kmpdesigns.com
250-SIZE 0
250-ETRN
250-ENHANCEDSTATUSCODES
250-X-IMS 5 212
250-DSN
250-VRFY
250-AUTH LOGIN NTLM SCRAM-MD5 CRAM-MD5
250-AUTH=LOGIN
250 8BITMIME
>>> AUTH NTLM
<<< 334
>>> <encrypted response>
<<< 334 TlRMTVNTUAACAAAAAAAAADAAAAACggAAX5cybo4tR0QAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAwAAAA
>>> <encrypted response>
<<< 500 5.7.0 Authentication failed - bad userid or password

According to some newsgroup threads I found this is due to the "@"
symbol in the username.

Anyone else having this issue?

Warren

Hi,

Because of our recent user infected with a virus (called in 2 mins after
I disabled the account BTW :^) I disabled the POP before you Drop
setting. This has caused issues for our 1 user on a MAC.

They are using Outlook Express for MAC 5.0 and it appears that it does
not AUTH before trying to send e-mail. A quick search has not yielded an
answer on whether this is fixed or not in a new version of Express for
MAC.

Does anyone know of a solution for this?
