Frank,

There are two applications to wireless equipment:

1. Connecting sites together (usually referred to as bridging).
2. Hot Spots.

The first usage is usually a bit pricy and requires some good technical knowledge as well as capability to do good site surveys and some good location planning in order to get the best signal. This becomes very tricky and sometimes impossible with crowded locations or with very far points.

The second is used in Cafes, Airports, Hospitals and the such in order to provide people inside these areas with high speed and reliable wireless connection to the net or the local network or the facility. This is usually inexpensive (depending on the location size you want to cover) and is easy (compared to the above one). This gets tricky as well when you have large sites that you want to completely cover with wireless (Hot Spot) technology such as multi-floow buildings and the such.

I hope I did answer some questions. I'm more into the second than the first. We did several connections between sites, but I use a contractor to do the site survey and installation of equipment as its really tough while we do the technical setup of the devices and management.

Regards..

Subject: [VOPRadius] Off Topic Wireless Internet (Needing Information)

Kais,

with luck someone else wrote you offlist.  I was also asking questions.  I have no answers.  I'm not doing anything with wireless now.  until this thread I didn't think it made sense but I'm sure wondering whether it does.  I'm trying to find out if the equipment at the user end is pricey so it would only make sense for a business user wanting a dedicated connection or if it's a consumer product in an urban area???
