Michael Foster asked if running Diesel engines on sugar-water or (gelatinized) corn starch
had been tried?

I don't know, but I think precooked corn meal mush  (without the raisins) would
offer enough lubrication to work okay.

According to this URL  36 bushels of corn $90.00 would produce 18 million BTU
which would be equivalent to 129 gallons of diesel $129.00.
