In my book: Recognizing one's "self" is to recognize the existence of 
one's soul. The fact that they may not be capable of reading Hebrew 
is a trivial factor in the greater scheme of things.

I can't read Hebrew either.

I can't make the leap from recognizing one's self and the recognition 
of a soul.

My point about Hebrew was that there is a correlation between reading 
and Hebrew and intellectual ability. Learning to do it is quite a 
challenge.
