Someone from the CDC commented that the water in New Orleans is septic but
not toxic -- an important distinction. It contains mainly bacteria and
biodegradable waste, but maybe not as many chemicals and petrochemicals as
originally feared. It is a shame they have to pump it into the lake and
ocean without treating it, but I gather it should not cause long-term harm.
