Ref (Wiki): Richard S. Friedman, (born October 31, 1944) American singer, songwriter, and novelist, who is currently an independent candidate for the office of Governor of Texas.

"Why the hell not" and "How hard could it be" make KF's great mottos.

Terry ---

Yup, perhaps "it couldn't be that hard," nowadays - but that's only because T. Delay is minding his manners, and will likely decline to tamper with things in the usual stuffed-box kinda way ... and given that mass-hysteria, lack of viable alternatives, and the charisma-factor (any kind of notoriety) are all in play in the Lone Star these daze - hey ... quien sabe ?

... don't forget that Jesse "the body" Ventura was elected governor of Minnesota, arguably a more sophisticated state. If Kinky can speak good Tejana, then watch out, Homey.

After all, a professional wrestler turned movie star is arguably lesser credentials than the writer of such classics as "Get Your Biscuits In The Oven and Your Buns In Bed" and either should exceed a draft-dodging ex-alchoholic baseball-team magnate. Well ...anywhere but Texas where money doesn't "just" talk.

On the negative side - has Friedman lost some of the ethnic 'rainbow' appeal of his heritage by naming his band "The Texas Jewboys" and other affronts to the faith? This is probably not a voting bloc that a minority candidate can afford to loose - even with Willie's help.

Apparently Friedman's father objected to the name of the band, calling it a "negative, hostile, peculiar thing" which gave Kinky even more reason to choose the name - this according to Wiki (expert on everything). Texans may go for that. At least he confronted racism and anti-Semitism head-on as in the song, "They Ain't Makin' Jews Like Jesus Anymore," a song in which Kinky verbally and physically beats up a drunken White racist who berates African Americans, Jews, Greeks and Sigma Nu's in a bar. His song "Asshole from El Paso", a parody of Merle Haggard's "Okie from Muskogee" is his most famous song and would easily get him my vote if I can register there soon enough. (I still have some relatives hanging around in Pecos county <g> ).

BTW did you see where Wiki immediately labeled the Ken Lay death as suicide? They may have to add some controls in there soon, as a few folks think of it as a real authority.

Ain't third party politics great, not to mention, ain't anything mostly 'out of institutionalized control' like Wiki, Kinky, and Willie - annoying to the politico-pros? Gotta luv-it... otherwise.
