This pulls the tube up, and the cloud down. When the positive cloud comes in contact with the tube, it is neutralized, but the power source soon creates more positive ions around the wire, and concurrently pumps more electrons into the tube. The only force of repulsion is between the cloud and the wire, however this pushes the cloud down, while the cathode pulls the cloud down. IOW both wire and tube work together, there is no opposing force. Regards,
