A google of "microwave assisted chemical reactions" with quotes produces 1370 items, and without quotes 93,000 items. Microwaves have application to chemistry far beyond just heating water.

One of the favored ingredients for microwave chemistry, due mostly to its environmental attributes, is hydrogen peroxide. A query of (hydrogen peroxide microwave) (no quotes) produces 222,000 results. Hydrogen peroxide plus microwaves is apparently a useful means to break down cells in sewage.

One area of concern with regard to the brain is the brain-blood- barrier. See:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blood-brain_barrier

especially the list of diseases related to loss of this barrier, including Alzheimer's. It is notable that the ear canal provides a relatively unobstructed path for sub centimeter radiation to the hippocampus area.

A disruption of the incredibly thin blood-brain-barrier could have effects greatly removed in time from the disruption incident.
