The following is probably unwarranted speculation on my part but I wonder if DARPA deliberately made a decision not to reveal the study for strategic/defense reasons. Perhaps they were hoping to take advantage of building up a head start. As long as the general public continues to assume the field is "pathological science" the more time it gives DARPA to get ahead of everyone else. Possibly a cynical, but shrewd strategy.
