The reaction C8H18 + 4.5O2 -> C8 + 9H20 yields a net energy of 1967.734 kJ/mol. Of course if you do it this way, you miss out on the energy from the formation of CO2 which would have yielded an extra 3148.08 kJ/mol. Regards, Robin van Spaandonk http://rvanspaa.freehostia.com/Project.html
