Word of the day: indiction Bet this one is not a part of your diction, induction or reduction. It goes back to this story-
Scientists have found evidence that another large object has bombarded the planet Jupiter, exactly 15 years after the first impacts by the comet Shoemaker-Levy 9. Coincidence ? In an effort to track down anything with a fifteen year cycle, the word "indiction" came up as being the 15-year cycle used as a chronological unit in ancient Rome, and incorporated in some medieval systems. It was not believed to have cosmological significance by the Romans AFAIK. Here is something that could be a little more relevant, but who knows? http://mathdl.maa.org/mathDL/46/?pa=content&sa=viewDocument&nodeId=3120&bodyId=3357 ... apparently Jupiter's neighbor Saturn has an almost 30 year cycle which just might be relevant, by Jove...
