which are reliable but comparatively heavy, with the newer lithium cells,

JR: The Prius still uses the NiMH batteries. I do not understand this
comment.

Well the reason you do not understand it is obvious. If you fail to keep up
with the News from Toyota about the batteries in the new models, then why
get into an argument with too little information at your disposal? ... or do
you think Reuters got it wrong?

kg. but they operate more reliably with a full charge. And full risk.

JR: Well, the Prius does not use them, so the fact that some portable
computers have burned is irrelevant. That's my point.

Unfortunately - it is an incorrect point ... since future Toyotas will use
lithium ion.

They will be thoroughly tested, of course but the same can be said for the
PC batteries from Sony, which failed despite thorough testing, and the same
for the batteries from Apple, Dell, HP, Compaq, Lenovo (IBM) etc, etc - all
recalled after thorough testing and overheating.
