V,

It is more a sad one, I think, so far.

Up here where I live, a lesbian woman was assaulted two girls and a group of
four men, apparently simply because the woman was a lesbian. Among other
things, she was stabbed in the eye, and will most likely (if she has not
already) lose that eye. I cannot think of much worse to lose than eyes or
hands. They are irreplaceable and unmatchable.

I do not know the woman, nor her family. I know next to no one who is
gay/lesbian. It does not change the fact that I am very angry that this
happened to a fellow human being. What was done to this woman was wrong. I hope
whoever did this is caught, and fast.

To add to this, this morning I learn of what happened yesterday afternoon in
Haiti.
Over 100,000 suspected dead.
We are only thirteen days into this new year. This has already happened.
What is next?

My wife and I have very little expendable cash at the moment. But if possible,
we will try to give at least something to help, limited and useless as it most
likely is. It is times like this that I wish I had a great amount of money. It
would be nice to be able to help even more.

Why does it seem that those who have the most, rarely part with it when someone
needs a hand? Why is it that those who wish to help, scarcely have enough to do
so?

If there is someone truly watching over this world, I have many hard questions
to ask.

I apologize for the depressing tone of this. But I am depressed.
