When riding a bicycle on a path shared by pedestrians, it is usually considered good form to alert the walker with "on your right", "on your left" or equivalent, which is a bit saner than indiscriminant "noise," which presumably needs to be much louder in order to achieve the proper attention level.
Given the video camera already in the Prius (rear mounted for reverse) and the advent of AI, one can imagine that the vehicle would eventually have two cams - and be able to signal the pedestrian directly of an approach with a direct low dB and 'aimed' message, at some future date. Pleasing everyone . almost. . there are still technophobes who will complain about the necessity of deciphering an automated message from a "machine" . . thus perhaps highlighting a future form of over-generalization, a.k.a. "racism" . "AIcism" ??? . nothing is as easy as it should be these days. From: Jed Rothwell . I can see the wisdom of this. It is a necessary trade-off. Sometimes a beautiful technology has to be compromised for practical reasons.
