Hi, It just occurred to me that in IRH the proton is revolving very fast around the electron. The back of an envelope yields a kinetic energy of 291 eV. With that amount of kinetic energy, and at that orbital frequency, it may have a chance of tunneling into another nucleus in a reasonable time, particularly if the other nucleus has a low atomic number.
