Judging size is always a problem, but that does look to be of the big and far away variety. I saw BL many years ago when it appeared to be small (1 metre?) and closer, and have had a long standing interest in BL as a result. I have seen videos of other BL where it splits. In other cases the daughters appear to be stable for a reasonable time, unlike in this video.

fwiw I tend to think that some kind of fusion/LENR must underlie BL, but I have yet to find any kind of hypothesis that makes sense.

I recently came across the remarkable work of John Trowbridge in the early 1900s on lightning, including some impressive attempts at reproducing lightning in the lab.

The event occurs at the 4:30 point into the vid.  One of the best
examples of BL I have seen.
