Using a principle, referred to as "anti-resolution", the Singaporean researchers have taken a completely different approach, and have built a "darkness beam" that bathes objects in the absence of light. - - - - <http://arxiv.org/abs/1312.0057> They say it can be scaled up to arbitrary sizes, and can be used either to cloak YOUR object, or to peek behind THEIRS. (I'm not quite sure how those can be achieved with their experimental setup.)
