My take:- When two grains rub against one another, the distance between them is nm. If a slight charge imbalance develops due to friction, and the particles are insulators, they form a minute capacitor. If a crack in the powder forms, then the nm distance can increase to mm's. This deceases the capacitance enormously, and since the charge is fixed, the voltage rises accordingly. Regards, Robin van Spaandonk http://rvanspaa.freehostia.com/project.html
