Just to clarify, lest I mislead:

Updating that file won't actually do anything to add device support per
se -- but it'll cause lspci and similar utilities to display full device
names instead of numeric IDs.  On the plus side, the results are usually
a lot more helpful in _finding_ appropriate drivers, thereafter.
