Just figured I'd mention that new CPU features typically require support in
BIOS.  Laptops and low end tier-1 desktops (hp, ibm, dell, etc) often disable
these features if they don't think they offer significant value to the end user.

So things like virtualization, hyperthreading, 64 bit support, and related are
sadly disabled on cheap hardware.  Strangely that same hardware coming from
tier-2/3 folks often enable those same features.

So basically if you plan to use any similar features you have to check for
support of both the BIOS and the CPU.
