Hi Robert,

All my testing for >= 2.6.23 kernel on voyage was done with ALIX.3a, which is a very early version. this may make a difference.

Punky

Hi Punky,

After posting this question the other day I ended up just running an apt-get
from my list of favourite sources for the new 2.6.23 kernel and it appears
to have gone on like a dream, no apparent hanging or bugs just yet, the box
appears to be running very nicely, I've not seen any hanging or problems
like that.

I am running an ALIX 3.c2 with the latest BIOS update, I think it has a
workaround enabled for the mfgpt on the BIOS from what I can remember.

Thanks mate,

Rob

Hi Rob,

experimental kernel could be found in:

http://www.voyage.hk/dists/experimental/linux

Of course, watch out the kernel may hang on ALIX.2/3c boards because of mfgpt issues.

Punky

Guys,

Out of interest is there any documentation on how to run an upgrade to the
2.6.23 kernel? I'm currently on voyage 4.1 and could really use the kernel
upgrade to something 2.6.22+

Thanks chaps,

Rob

Hi.

Sorry for replying to my own mail, but I've just came across a related
pit-fall:

BIOS version workaround status
====================================================
0.93 and older not available
0.94 .. 0.98b always enabled
0.98c always off
0.98d .. 0.99 selectable, default: disabled
v0.98d seems to have a bug where the users' selection regarding the MFGPT
workaround is not saved properly to the flash. After leaving the setup the
BIOS will forget about the MFGPT reset option and will fall back on the
default (which is "MFGPT reset disabled").

Bye, Mike
