And yes, the setup works for 11b client, since I test with 2001 iBook.
At that time only pre-11b is available...

That is exactly what I needed. One quick point for others who might
use these instructions. Be careful about extra spaces when pasting
commands into hostpad.conf. On startup mine kept complaining that
"hw_mode=g " was invalid. I removed the extra spaces at the end
to fix it.
One question... with hw_mode=g will it also support 802.11b clients
that want to connect. Unfortunately, I don't have a 802.11b client to
test.
