You must untar the archive. Tar was/is used for backing up files and then
Untar would normally put  the files back where they came from on your
storage device.

Eg, tar /dir1/file1 /dir2/file2 into one archive dirs.tar 

It does not crunch the files.. probably more than you wanted. But there you
go.

Get Untar.. from Aminet.

It will then release a/some files.
