Simply put, there is no way of playing a sound through Voyager, and I
would wager through any browser, without using the BGSOUND tag.
There were some freakish JS scripts available a while back that relied
on EMBED, but they don't work very well, if at all.

If you're REALLY stuck, you could use Flash..
