I checked out XHelvetica in ColorType.

The problem is that these (very widely used) fonts have extra wide
characters for displaying all the characters which are not alphanumeric.
For example, character 13 (or 0D in hex) is a big black block with CR in
white. It is 18 pixels wide - a double-width character.

It looks as if Voyager bases its width calculations on the widest
character in the font, which in this case is character zero.

It might be better to base them on the width of the capital M.

The workaround is of course to not use XHelvetica in Voyager, but as
these are the clearest and most readable small fonts on the Amiga, that
would be a pity.
