I think that the GUI wouldn't "feel" so cramped if the VPN Site Configuration window were wide enough to accommodate the tabs without shifting the view. (I know that I would appreciate a wider window, since I sometimes need to give clients instructions on tweaking their settings.) With the window wider, the Other Options section of the Client tab could probably handle the field that is proposed here.

Hello,
please make the VPN Client Application Version (and Firewall type) editable.
Some Cisco VPN Gateways terminate the connection and deny "Application
Version = Cisco Systems VPN Client 4.8.01.0300:WinNT".
I suggest an option "auto" with the current values and e.g. a textfield
for this string or a dropdown list with some client descriptions (Cisco
Systems VPN Client ..., VPNC, Linux native VPN client, MacOS native VPN
client).

This is a good suggestion. I'm just not sure where we would stuff it in the gui. It's already pretty cluttered/cramped.
