Some off-topic: I noticed the same issue at an early point in the development of my VPP configuration tool. The decision to completely rewrite my rconfig utility to use API msg was the best that I can do. I need strictly on-the-fly reconfiguration with minimal stop-passing data time. So differential reconfiguration was the only correct way. With API you can use many lists dump with very comfortable next-step processing (sw_interface_dump, abf_policy_dump, abf_itf_attach_dump, acl_dump, etc).
