I followed a hint on the list and took the "rc" Skript from a redhat disrto - now I can at least fire up the server but some of the services still fail. But this will be easy to fix - hoepfully.

Look into /etc/init.d/rc3.d:
Do the failing processes have Links with multiply assigned numbers?

If yes, apply my second fix.
The script trying to run them in parallel fails in a vserver.
Don't ask me why.
